The Lord’s prayer is a complete guide on what is
required of us akin to Micah 6:8, Deuteronomy 10:12-13 and Psalm 145:8. The purpose is to teach and help us develop the
nature of godliness; to be more like your father, the God of Israel. |
9 In this manner, therefore, pray: |
Micah 6:8 He hath shewed thee, man, what is good; and what doth
the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk
humbly with thy God? [Entry for Strong's #06800
- צָנַע
Word Definition [ Brown-Drivers-Briggs | Strong ] Brown-Driver-Briggs' Definition 1) to be humble, be modest, be lowly 1a) (Qal) to show humility 2) (Hiphil) modest] Deuteronomy 10:12-13 12 And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require
of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love
him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, 13 To keep the commandments of the Lord, and his
statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good? Psalm 145:8 The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to
anger, and of great mercy. Isaiah 57:15-16 15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth
eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him
also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the
humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones. 16 For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be
always wroth: for the spirit should fail before me, and the souls which I
have made. Psalm 37:11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight
themselves in the abundance of peace. |

Only when we are humble, will we be
able to surrender to the will of God and acknowledge his rule over all
things. Isaiah 57:15 says that the Lord will
dwell with him that is of a contrite and humble spirit. As in Psalm 37:11, the meek and the
righteous shall truly inherit the earth when the Lord will cause the wicked
and the violent to be cut off from his inheritance and perish. |
Our Father in heaven, 10 Your kingdom come. |

Bread in the Bible means both edible food
and the word of God. Even on the Sabbath rest days, we are allowed and should
continue to eat and drink like any other day. Deuteronomy 8:3 indicates that the word
of God is what sustains us and that God is both the bread of life and living
waters. In the Book of John chapter 6,
Jesus revealed and declared that he is the bread of life and living waters. That was why Moses survived for 40 days twice
over without food and water because the Lord gave to Moses all that was needed
in order to live (bread and water – Exodus 34:28). Under normal circumstances, a person would
in most instances but not all, die after 14 days without food and water. |
11
Give us this day our daily bread. |
Exodus 16:15And when the children of Israel saw it, they
said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses
said unto them, This is the bread which the Lord hath given you to eat. Deuteronomy 8:3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed
thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that
he might make thee know that man doth not live by
bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord
doth man live. John 6:31-35 31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is
written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. 32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto
you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the
true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from
heaven, and giveth life unto the world. 34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this
bread. 35
And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never
hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. Exodus 34:28 And he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights;
he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the
words of the covenant, the ten commandments. Jeremiah 2:13 For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken
me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken
cisterns, that can hold no water. John 4:10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift
of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest
have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. |

The Lord forgives our debts, offenses
and sins because of his great mercy; likewise, we are to emulate his mercy
when we learn to forgive those who have done us wrong or sinned against us. |
12 And forgive us our debts, |
Strong's Concordance opheiléma: that which is owed, a debt Original Word: ὀφείλημα, ατος, τό Mark 11:25-26 25 And when ye stand praying, forgive,
if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may
forgive you your trespasses. 26 But if ye do not forgive, neither
will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses. |

The KJV word on “temptation” or
“tempt” in its original text in Greek or Hebrew leans towards the meaning of
trials and being tried and tested instead of enticing someone by charm or
seduction in the English language. So, does the Lord tempt people? I would
say sometimes, day and night we are being tried and tested for our own good –
in accordance to James 1:2-4, because trials builds up our patience so that
we can be like the Lord who is slow to anger because of his infinite
patience, compassion and gracious nature. |
13 And do not lead us into temptation, |
